Eye on Kickstarter #2
Welcome to my Eye on Kickstarter series! This series will highlight Kickstarter campaigns I am following that have recently launched (or I've recently discovered) because they have caught my interest. Usually they'll catch my interest because they look like great games that I have either backed or would like to back (unfortunately budget doesn't allow me to back everything I'd like to). But occasionally the campaigns caught my attention for other reasons. Twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Fridays, I'll make a new post in this series, highlighting the campaigns that have caught my attention since the last post. In each post I'll highlight one campaign that has really grabbed my attention, followed by other campaigns I've backed or am interested in. I'll also include links to any reviews I've done. Comments are welcome, as are suggestions for new campaigns to check out!
You can also see my full Kickstarter Profile to see what I've backed or my old Eye on Kickstarter page that was too unwieldy to maintain. Also, check out the 2016 Kickstarter Boardgame Projects geeklist over on Board Game Geek for a list of all the tabletop games of the year.
So, without further ado, here are the projects I'm currently watching as of the second Friday of August, 2016:
In a few years, the modern world will plunge into turmoil. Countries around the world will panic, widespread chaos will ensue, and civilized society will change virtually overnight as citizens cope with the loss of a modern-day vital resource. A resource needed for commerce. A resource needed for communication. A resource needed for life-sustaining technology. The resource… is energy.
But that time is not here yet! The United Nations cannot fix this problem themselves, but they know who can: the Captains of Industry. These people are experienced with building energy industries, and they are just the ones to solve this problem before time runs out! They are more than willing to do their best to save the world from this crisis. Of course, the resulting United Nations contract worth billions of dollars awarded to the Captain that accomplishes this task does not hurt, either...
Compete with other players to win the contract and ensure that your company will become the #1 global energy power for many years to come! Obtain government industry permits by using energy credits allotted by the United Nations Council for aligning yourself to their environmental objectives. Industries you own will constantly increase the energy credits you are allotted, but they also increase the terawatt-hours, TWh (energy) generated by your company! And it is ultimately out-performing your opponents and hitting the optimal level of terawatt-hours that will win you the U.N. contract, and win you the game!

HIGHLIGHTED CAMPAIGN
Game of Energy
Game of Energy is a highly thematic eurogame of medium-light complexity. The primary mechanics are tile placement and resource management. It plays 1-4 players, and usually lasts around 30-60 minutes.Game of Energy

- GJJ Games Backed
- I reviewed Game of Energy back in February for its first campaign. That campaign didn't work out, but Nimex Games has regrouped and Game of Energy is back on Kickstarter and going strong! Game of Energy will be a wonderful gateway game. The rules are easy and straightforward, the theme is very accessible, the artwork is absolutely gorgeous, has multiple layers of strategy and depth, is somewhat educational, and most of all it was a ton of fun to play! I can't wait for Game of Energy to fund on Kickstarter and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great, medium weight game that is good for families, casual gamers, and the occasional hard core gamer. This is a winner that should please just about everyone that has the opportunity to play!

The Lords of Rock
- GJJ Games Review
- GJJ Games Backed
- The Lords of Rock looks great, has an awesome theme, and is quite a bit of fun to play as a quick filler game. The game has funded and has been knocking out stretch goals with a very well run campaign. The Elder Gods pantheon has been added to the game and the Chinese pantheon will likely be added soon. Be sure to back and then add your own ideas for parody songs in the campaign comments!
Beneath Nexus
- GJJ Games Review
- GJJ Games Backed
- Beneath Nexus is an asymmetrical, semi-cooperative card based dungeon crawler that looks absolutely stunning. The world that Nexus is located in looks amazing and I want more story from this world!
Space Base Mutiny
- GJJ Games Backed
- $1 for a game? I couldn't pass this one up. It looks like a super simple area control game, but seems like it could be fun. And at only $1 I'm happy to support the game! Check it out!
