Con of Champions: Be a Hero! Help Save Tabletop.Events!

Raise your hand if you've been to a board game convention in the past five years.  Yeah?  You, too?  If you have, especially if it was a smaller local convention (or maybe one of the larger ones, too), chances are it used Tabletop.Events to handle things like badge sales, vendor booths, game libraries, convention events, and more.  Tabletop.Events is a service that convention organizers can use for complete control of their conventions, and it's designed with the specific needs of the tabletop scene in mind.

Unfortunately the current COVID-19 pandemic has caused conventions around the world to cancel or postpone their 2020 dates.  This has had a devastating effect on Tabletop.Events.  Their primary source of revenue has completely dried up in just a matter of a few weeks.  Yes, the world will get through this coronavirus, and conventions will get back on the calendar someday, but in the meantime, Tabletop.Events is struggling.  They initially announced they were going to have to close up shop at the end of April, but their fans and community have rallied and fought back to keep this amazing resource for all gamers (yes, even those of you that haven't knowingly used Tabletop.Events have benefited from it).  The result is Con of Champions!

Con of Champions is an online tabletop gaming convention that is being organized to support Tabletop.Events and help them weather this storm.  It's estimated that Tabletop.Events will need about $56,000 to remain active throughout the rest of 2020 so that they can be ready for the 2021 convention season.  That's a tall order, but the convention has already raised over $20,000 and badges have only been on sale for 5 days!

So, what can you do to help?  That's simple, just head on over to the Con of Champions page on Tabletop.Events and buy a badge.  They're as cheap as $2 or as high as $7,000.  Grab a badge at whatever level you feel comfortable supporting at.  All funds from badge sales go to support Tabletop.Events.

What do you get?  Well, that's a little less simple.  There are a ton of benefits available.  First, this will be an actual online convention.  Con of Champions will take place over Memorial Day weekend - May 23, 24, and 25.  Dozens of people are organizing events that will be scheduled throughout the weekend.  These events range from online games hosted on Tabletop Simulator, Tabletopia, Livestreaming, Zoom, and many other platforms to guest speakers holding online presentations and discussions, to online RPG sessions, to prototype testing events, and more.  Whatever your gaming taste, there will be an online event for you!

But that's not all!  A ton of publishers, convention hosts, designers, content creators, and more have donated hundreds of "perks" for convention attendees.  There are actual physical games being given away, VIP badges for other conventions, free and discounted badges for other conventions, PnP and PDF versions of games, advertising opportunities, memberships, and more.  Starting at the beginning of May, convention badge holders will get to select their perk of choice.  The higher the badge value the earlier they'll get to choose what perk they want.  These will all be listed in the Con of Champions page, but I'm happy to say that GJJ Games will also be including a bunch of perks for people to choose from.  I'll list my offerings below.

So, if you'd like to see an amazing pillar of the tabletop games community survive through these tough times, head on over to the Con of Champions page and help out.  Oh, and did I mention that Tabletop.Events is run by the same folks that run The Game Crafter?  This is an amazing group of people that are dedicated to the tabletop community and have been helping designers, publishers, convention organizers, and content creators for over a decade now.  It's time for the community to say thanks and help them out of a tough jam!

GJJ Games Perks Offerings:

Rolling Seas Print & Play (3 copies)
I'll put together a print and play package of Rolling Seas, my roll and write game that was designed for the Game Crafter Staff Roll & Write Design Contest.  The game is currently a semifinalist and waiting for the finalists to be chosen.  In addition to all the files needed to print and play the game, I'll also include six pre-made maps that aren't available anywhere else currently and the prototype files for the first expansion, The Crew.

Trick Builders Print & Play (3 copies)
Trick Builders is my blend of trick-taking, deck building, and drafting in a game that JT Smith of The Game Crafter and Tabletop.Events called one of the top three games he played at Protospiel Milwaukee 2018.  I'll put together a print and play package that includes the 5-6 player expansion components.

18 Card Game Collection Print & Play (3 copies)
Includes Snowball Fight, 4th Grade Confidential, ChromaWerks, and The Overland Route
I'll put together a print and play bundle of four 18 card games that I designed.  This will include several alternate cards for Snowball Fight and 4th Grade Confidential.  Snowball Fight is an 18 card deckbuilder for two players where you'll engage in a simultaneous action snow battle.  4th Grade Confidential is a 3-5 player game about solving the latest elementary school crime.  One player is the sleuth and 2-4 other players are students, one of which is the culprit.  Will the sleuth figure out the guilty party?  Or will the culprit escape to misbehave another day?  ChromaWerks is a colorful game of strategy for two players.  You'll take turns manipulating cards in a grid to build a complete set of functional machinery before your opponent.  The Overland Route is a semi-cooperative two-player game about building the first transcontinental railroad.  Will you build more track than your opponent when the railroad is finished?

GJJ Games Print & Play Bundle (3 copies)
I'll have three print and play bundles of all six games listed above!

18 Card Print & Play Games (unlimited copies)
I'll have each of the four 18 card games described above available individually as a perk for anyone.  This will ensure that everyone will be able to get a perk, even if other offered perks run out.

GJJ Games Reviews are independent, unpaid reviews of games I, George Jaros, have played with my family and friends.  Some of these games I own, some are owned by friends, some are borrowed, and some were provided by a publisher or designer for my honest feedback and evaluation.  I make every attempt to be both honest and constructively critical in my reviews, and they are all my opinions.  There are four types of reviews on GJJ Games: Full Reviews feature critical reviews based on a rubric and games receive a rating from 0 to 100.  Quick Reviews and Kickstarter Previews are either shorter reviews of published games or detailed preview reviews of crowdfunding games that will receive a rating from 0 to 10 based on my impressions of the game.  Buds, Blooms, and Thorns reviews are shorter reviews of either published or upcoming games that highlight three aspects of a game: Buds are parts of a game I look forward to exploring more, Blooms are outstanding features of a game, and Thorns are shortcomings of a game.  Each BBT review game will receive an overall rating of Thorn, Bud, or Bloom.
